Scrub Tech
Edgewood Surgical Hospital is seeking an individual to work under the supervision and authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. We have four operating rooms and one special procedure room. We primarily perform the following surgeries: orthopedic surgery, cataract surgery, vitrectomies, and pain procedures.
The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
Preoperative Duties are as follows:
1. Donning OR attire and personal protective equipment (PPE).
2. Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
3. Performs the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves.
4. Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
5. Performs initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator.
6. Assists the team members with gowning and gloving.
7. Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
8. Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
9. Secures tubing, cords and other sterile accessories
Intraoperative Duties are as follows:
1. Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.
2. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
3. Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.
4. Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
5. Sponges or suctions the operative site.
6. Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon.
7. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
8. Performs additional counts as necessary.
9. Prepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
10. Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate.
11. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
12. Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room. 1
13. Assists in prepping the OR for the next patient.
14. Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care

Registered Nurse Pre-op/Pacu

Pre-Operative RN Job Summary: The admitting nurse provides nursing care to patients being admitted for surgery. The nursing role during this phase focuses on assessing, identifying, and solving nursing care and pre-operative problems. The nurse is responsible for starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative medications and performing pre-operative instruction and education. They must facilitate and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
PACU RN Job Summary: The recovery room nurse provides nursing care to patients returning from surgery. The nursing role during this phase focuses on assisting the patient through the transition from an anesthetized state to an awake condition. The nurse is responsible for assisting and maintaining adequate ventilation, hemostasis and circulation; assessing level of consciousness, providing pain management, and ensuring the safety of the patient until transferred to the inpatient unit.
Education/Certifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

Registered Nurse OR

OR RN job summary:
-Acts as a patient advocate pre, intra, and postoperatively
-Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers necessary for completion of surgery.
-Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient.
-Assess the patient’s condition before, during, and after the operation to ensure an optimal outcome for the patient.
-Anticipates the scrub tech’s needs and opens sterile packs, operates equipment, and keeps accurate records.
Registered Nurse Inpatient

Inpatient RN Job Summary/Description: This is a position for a 10 bed Inpatient Unit caring primarily for orthopedic patients.
The RN will:
· Provides direct patient care including treatments, medications, activities of daily living, post-operative pain management, managing IV lines, lab draws, and physical assessments according to policy and procedure.
· Completes assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards.
· Must make sure patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
· Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying physical, psychological, social, cultural, and clinical issues for patient care.
· Initiates communication with physician and articulates the patient’s condition to other care providers and negotiates to make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices.
· Problem solves, troubleshoots, and takes corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment.
· Actively participates as a team member working toward team goals of the unit and organization.
